Enrollment at UW-Fond du Lac
continues to grow
Posted 9-21-09— The University of
Wisconsin-Fond du Lac enrollment for the fall
semester increased 6% compared to one year ago
with 779 students taking classes at the
university.
The campus has shown significant growth in
the number of students over the past decade.
Enrollment for the 1998-1999 academic year, just
prior to a major campus renovation, was 485
students. The 2009 enrollment represents an
increase of 60% compared to ten years ago.
Approximately 26% of the students at UW-Fond du
Lac are
returning adult students over the age of 22.
UW-Fond du Lac Interim Dean and CEO Judy
Goldsmith said the increase is good news for the
Fond du Lac area.
“UW-Fond du Lac prepares students of all ages
and backgrounds for more than
200
fields of study,” said Goldsmith. “As a
gateway to the
University
of Wisconsin System, UW-Fond du Lac is
becoming the school of choice for more and more
students who want to start their college careers
close to home and receive an affordable UW
education.”
UW-Fond du Lac has the lowest annual tuition
in the UW System, $4,268, and offers a
guaranteed transfer program to four-year UW
System schools. An articulation agreement was
recently signed with
Marian University in Fond du Lac to assure
transfer for students.
Goldsmith credited the long term enrollment
growth seen at the university to expanded
offerings, affordability and the investment in
the renovated facilities.
“In 2000, a comprehensive renovation project
was completed at the campus and in conjunction
with that, we’ve continued to expand our course
offerings, developed several collaborations with
other UW schools for
bachelor’s
degree completion programs and launched a
new FastTrack
blended degree program to attract adult
students,” said Goldsmith. “With the
tuition
freeze still in place this year, we are also
the most affordable option in the UW System, a
very important fact in these challenging
economic times.”
The increased enrollment at UW-Fond du Lac is
part of a statewide trend. The 13
freshman-sophomore campuses of the
UW Colleges
have enrolled a record 13,807 students as of
September 16, the 10th day of the fall semester.
That is an increase of 4.6% over the fall
semester of 2008, and the fifth consecutive year
of growth.
