UW-Fond du Lac invites community to attend lecutre about copyright law

Fond du Lac, Wis.-The University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac is offering a lecture about copyright law noon-1 p.m. on Sept. 27 or 7-8 p.m. on Sept. 28. The event is free of charge and open to the public in the LGI room in the University Center Commons, 400 University Dr.

Dan Rager, UW-Fond du Lac music professor, will lead the “Copyright 101” lecture and will explain what a copyright is, how to apply for one, how it protects your work, why you should apply for one and what you can and cannot copyright. Also discussed will be fair use law and why music files can’t be copied without paying for them.

This lecture will be of interest to anyone who has or will ever create something and wants to learn about protecting their work and income potential. This includes, but is not limited to, artists, photographers, videographers, musicians and writers of cookbooks to novels.

The lecture will also be beneficial to high school and college bound students who want to gain an understanding of copyright laws and proper use in the classroom.

Rager is recognized internationally as a composer and conductor of symphonic music and is in demand as a composer and conductor throughout the United States, Latin America, Europe and Russia. In addition, he has over 100 compositions and arrangements published by major publishing companies.
