Jazz Cabaret planned for May 10 at UW-Fond du Lac

4/28/2009 – The University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac Music Department will present a Jazz Cabaret at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 10, in the University Center Commons, 400 University Dr., Fond du Lac.

The newly-formed UW-Fond du Lac Jazz Combo, directed by Dan Rager, music professor, will perform popular jazz movie classics such as “People Will Say We’re In Love”, “Something’s Gotta Give”, “All the Things You Are”, Night and Day” and others. The ensemble will feature Jennifer Bell on vocals and Richard Dempsey, Mark Thompson and Mike Toshner on instrumental solos.

The evening will also feature U-FiDeLity, UW-Fond du Lac’s Vocal Jazz ensemble, directed by Patricia Eby, music professor and associate dean. U-FiDeLity is accompanied by Eby, keyboard; Mike Toshner, guitar; Dan Malson, bass; and Nathan Schultz and Mark Thompson, drums. U-FiDeLity is an auditioned group of nine students performing various styles of vocal jazz including blues, swing and gospel. The group has appeared at the UW-Waukesha Jazz Fest and Clinic, Fond du Lac Jazz Fest and many other community events.

U-FiDeLity members will be featured as vocal soloists throughout the evening singing favorite jazz standards including “Misty”, “Three Little Words”, “Love for Sale” and “Satin Doll.” Members include Jennifer Bell, Shana Davis, Julia Rothe, Briana Gens, Catherine Weber, Brandon Burnard, Andy Senecal, Josh Halbur and Joe Birschbach.

A cash bar will open at 6:30 p.m. prior to the concert.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for area students, free for UW-Fond du Lac students. Tickets can be purchased in the UW-Fond du Lac Business Office, Monday thru Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., by phone at (920) 929-1111 or at the door.
