UW-Fond du Lac and Fond du
Lac High School students join together to
recognize National Day of Silence on April
25
Students in the University of Wisconsin-Fond
du Lac Multicultural Club and the Fond du Lac
High School Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) will
participate in the National Day of Silence on
Friday, April 25.
Members of the public who want to show their
solidarity with LGBT (lesbian, gay, bi-sexual
and transgender) students are invited to join in
“Breaking Silence Drum Jam and Speak Out” at 4
p.m. in the UW-Fond du Lac University Center
Commons, 400 University Drive.
Those gathered will break the silence with
instruments and drums and several students and
allies will speak out against harassing behavior
and in favor of equal rights and support for
LGBT individuals. The program will end by 4:30
p.m.
The National Day of Silence brings attention
to anti LGBT name-calling, bullying and
harassment in schools. This year’s event will be
held in memory of Lawrence King, a California
8th grader who was shot and killed February 12
by a classmate because of his sexual orientation
and gender expression.
Hundreds of thousands of students across the
country are expected to come together on April
25 to encourage schools and classmates to
address the problem of anti-LGBT behavior. For
