UW-Fond du Lac Theater Department presents spring play comedy “The Roommate” March 5-9 in Prairie Theater

The University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac Theater Department will present the comedy “The Roommate” by J. Merrill Motz in the Prairie Theater, 400 University Drive at 7:30 p.m. March 5-8 with matinees at 2 p.m. on March 8 and 9.

The play examines college life and your worst roommate nightmare come true according to Director Richard Gustin, UW-Fond du Lac theater and communication arts professor.

“The Roommate” is a Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival nominated play, having only its second college production at UW-Fond du Lac. Changes and rewrites are being made by the playwright even as the show is in rehearsal.

“Motz is a young, cutting edge playwright from Minneapolis,” said Gustin. “This is a unique opportunity for UW-Fond du Lac students and our academic community to collaborate with a playwright in the development of a new theater work.”

According to Gustin, audiences will enjoy this hilarious and sometimes dark look at the ‘art’ of roommate management.

UW-Fond du Lac students in the production include Matt Maier as Fisher, Eva Thelen as Courtney, Francis Sullivan as the understudy for Tom, Aimee Gleason as the understudy for Courtney and Heath Houdek as understudy for Fisher. They are joined by community member Cody Stewart as Tom.

Technical production crew includes Melissa Schnook, Andy Sehloff, Joey Kunde, Tammy Fink, Kaitlin Malwitz, Amanda Bates, Bill Parish, Kristie Fauska and Maria Xiong. The production is technically directed by Bruce Towell.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and can be purchased in advance at the UW-Fond du Lac Business Office or by phone at (920) 906-6350. Tickets purchased at the door are $2 more.

UW-Fond du Lac students can attend the opening night performance on March 5 free with student ID. This show is part of the UW-Fond du Lac Performing Arts Series.

The production does include adult language and content.
