UW-Fond du Lac to host author Luke Geddes

The University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac is hosting a a series of free events and workshops with guest writer/author Luke Geddes on Nov. 15 and 16 at the campus, 400 University Dr., Fond du Lac.

Geddes published his first book “I am a Magical Teenage Princess” this past summer. Born and raised in Appleton, his stories have appeared in Hayden's Ferry Review, Conjunctions, Mid-American Review, The Collagist, PANK and other journals. He is currently a Ph.D. student living in Cincinnati, Ohio.

A writer’s panel discussion “The Writing Process: The Writing Life” will be held 12:30-1:20 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15 in the LGI room. Geddes will join panelists Mike Mentzer, former managing editor of the Reporter and currently a journalism instructor at UW-Fond du Lac, and Monica Walk, a local freelance writer to discuss the writing process and how a person can make a living as a writer – or make a life that includes writing. This panel discussion is sponsored by the Engaging Students in the First Year (ESFY) committee at UW-Fond du Lac.

Geddes will read a story from his collection during “An Evening with Author Luke Geddes,” 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15 in the LGI Room. Richard Klein, communications and theater arts instructor at UW-Fond du Lac, will facilitate a question and answer session on using popular culture in literary fiction, the craft of short story writing, how to publish your short stories and how to get into graduate school.

A workshop/discussion on the craft of writing will be held 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16 in the LGI Room. The topic will be “Infusing Popular Culture into Literature.”
