Many nursing programs at University of Wisconsin schools require students to have completed a nursing assistant course with clinical component and have a current CNA certificate at time of application.
A partnership agreement signed recently brings a nursing assistant three-credit course to pre-nursing majors at the University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac through Clarity Care. The course prepares students to take the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exam and earn a CNA designation.
Both the course and clinical component will be provided by Clarity Care instructors. Laboratory furnishings for the course have been provided by Agnesian Healthcare.
The course, Introduction to Patient Care (HES 150), includes classroom, lab practice and clinical experience. Students will learn the principles and skills necessary to provide quality resident care. These skills and concepts may be applied in various healthcare settings including nursing homes, home health agencies, assisted living facilities and hospitals. Students will learn about what is necessary to be a competent and compassionate caregiver.
The first section of the course offered this fall is full. The next course begins March 15, 2012.
All students must meet with UW-Fond du Lac Continuing Education Director Leanne Doyle to review course materials and attendance policy prior to registering for the course. To schedule an appointment call (920) 929-1153 or e-mail leanne.doyle@uwc.edu.
