UW-Fond du Lac Theater Department to present “The Dining Room” Oct. 31 – Nov. 4
Six actors play 57 roles in comedy
The University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac Theater Department will present “The Dining Room” by A. R. Gurney, Oct. 31- Nov. 4, in the Prairie Theater, 400 University Dr. Show times are Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
This comedy is produced and directed by UW-Fond du Lac theater professor Richard Gustin who says the setting is the dining room of a typical well-to-do household where a multitude of characters related by family, friendship and desire pass through in a series of vignettes.
“’The Dining Room’ is very funny and has a host of wonderfully drawn characters,” said Gustin. “The action is a mosaic of interrelated scenes – some funny, some touching and some rueful. Audiences have come to expect excellent productions here at UW-Fond du Lac and ‘The Dining Room’ will be no exception."
Gustin added that each actor portrays multiple roles. The cast includessix actors playing 57 roles. “That's the fun of it.It's an acting tour-de-force. We are having a blast working on it and know our audiences will love it, too.”
Students in UW-Fond du Lac courses taught by Gustin and professors Eric Boos, philosophy; Paisley Harris, history; Michaela Nowell, sociology; Lisa Schreibersdorf, English; and Kristi Wilkum, communication and theater arts, are studying the play from their specific disciplines. As part of a creative campus interdisciplinary studies project, they will all come together for a group discussion about the play at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, in Room A-219. The public is invited.
The UW-Fond du Lac student cast members are Cassady Corrigan, Sarah Lally, Jacob Lefeber, Elizabeth Napier, Mack Shaffer and Ty Trainor. The understudies are Nathaniel Hounsell, Katlyn Hover, Braxton Schaffer and Aubrey Stucke.
UW-Fond du Lac students Jacob Lefeber and Becki Winter serve as production managers assisted by stage managers Ben Ellinson and Hannah Lynch.Other students involved with production include Sarah Lally as costumer and Austin Aalsma, Nathaniel Hounsell, Aubrey Stucke and Ty Zimmerman.
BruceTowell serves as the technical director withUW-Fond du Lac alumnus Andy Sehloff as lighting designer.
Tickets are $10 adults, $5 students. UW-Fond du Lac students can attend free with ID on Oct. 31. Those attending the show on Oct. 31 are encouraged to come in costume to celebrate Halloween. Purchase tickets at the UW-Fond du Lac Business Office, by calling (920) 929-1111 or at the door.
