New faculty members named

UW-Fond du Lac welcomed four new tenure-track faculty members in 2008

Eric Boos, assistant professor of philosophy, earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy from Marquette University and his J.D. and LL.M. from the University of Wisconsin. He is a licensed attorney with experience in litigation and international law. Professor Boos taught law courses in Africa and Lithuania, was named a Fulbright Scholar for 2003-04 at Sokoine University in Tanzania, was awarded the State Bar Award for Academic Excellence in 2001 and was an FLAS Fellow at UW-Madison. Boos is a 20-year volunteer instructor for the American Red Cross and has served in Haiti and Tanzania as a Catholic lay missionary working in inner-city hospitals, AIDS clinics, leprosy clinics, schools, shelters and half-way houses.


David Demezas, assistant professor of biology, earned his Ph.D. in Microbiology from Oregon State University. He did post-doctoral research with CSIRO Plant Industry in Canberra, Australia, and the Center for Microbial Ecology at Michigan State University. Professor Demezas taught courses in general biology, cell and molecular biology and microbiology at Oklahoma State University and also mentored graduate students and conducted research on the ecology of beneficial plant-associated bacteria. In addition, he coordinated a multidisciplinary project in plant molecular biology involving plant biology scientists from Oklahoma State University, University of Oklahoma and the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation.



Valerie Mumm, assistant professor of world languages, earned a master’s degree in Spanish language and Latin American literature from UWMilwaukee. She completed coursework abroad in Valladolid, Spain, and San Jose, Costa Rica. She also spent four months in Lima, Peru, working with children at a local orphanage. She is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, among them a major summer research grant from UW-Eau Claire and the UW-Milwaukee Chancellor’s Award. She is teaching Spanish courses at UW-Fond du Lac.





Dan Rager, assistant professor of music, earned a Doctorate of Music Education from Boston University. He is recognized internationally as a composer and conductor of symphonic music and is in demand as a composer and conductor throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Russia. Professor Rager has over 100 compositions and arrangements published by major publishing companies. He has received many prestigious awards sponsored by the American Composers Forum, the Rockefeller Foundation, The National Endowment for the Arts, the Knight Foundation and the Public Broadcasting Service.
