AUGUST 3-7, 2009

Learning Enrichment for Able Primary Students

Admission Requirements
Courses are open to highly able and motivated students entering Grades 2–4 in 2009. Applicants need not be enrolled in gifted programs at their schools, but must have a recommendation attesting to their ability to complete the course work from either their school principal or classroom teacher or G/T coordinator.

DATES
Classes are August 3–7, 2009 from 9:00-11:45 a.m. Children enroll in two different classes separated by a supervised snack break each day from 10:15–10:30 a.m.

ENROLLMENT
Be sure to complete the class preference portion of the application. We realize you would like your child to have first and second choices; however, the limited class sizes and number of children enrolled in the program makes this very difficult. Enrollment is first come/first serve. Do not delay in submitting your child’s application! Incomplete applications are returned. Class assignments are final. Class size minimums and maximums are 10 and 16 respectively. Confirmation of enrollment, indicating class placement, will be mailed to students after June 19, 2009.

TUITION & ENROLLMENT
Non-refundable tuition for the program is $89, payable at the time of application. Due to the generosity of the UW-Fond du Lac Foundation there is limited funding available for LEAPS! students demonstrating financial need. Please indicate on the application form if you qualify for the free/reduced lunch program at your school and enclose a copy of the Parent Notification of Eligibility.

COURSE CONTENT
The LEAPS! instructors have expertise in their subject areas, and are excited about having the opportunity to provide challenging enrichment opportunities for academically, creatively and artistically talented children. Courses are designed to meet the special needs of highability children and meet the following educational objectives:

  • Learning activities at appropriate level and pace
  • Stimulation to a broad variety of ideas and topics
  • Experience in creative thinking and problem solving
  • Encouragement to seek practical application of knowledge
  • Development of self-awareness and acceptance of one’s own capacities, interests and needs
