UW-Fond du Lac renovation – a bold new campus image

In September of 1998, the Fond du Lac Board of Supervisors unanimously approved $12.9 million for the renovation of the UW-Fond du Lac campus. Construction began in the spring of 1999. The state of Wisconsin approved $1.8 million for moveable equipment and furnishings.

The renovation project at UW-Fond du Lac has increased the visibility of the campus in the community while providing the campus with the facilities to match the academic excellence of the University of Wisconsin curriculum.

In 2000, then UW-Fond du Lac campus dean Judy Goldsmith said “Our new state-or-the-art facilities can now fulfill the technical needs of our 21st century students. It’s both functional and attractive.”

The renovation included the addition of a new University Center, located between the science and administration buildings, featuring a new library, theater, music suite, campus store, large group meeting room and student commons.

Also completely gutted and rebuilt during the project were the Science Building, the Art Building and the Classroom Building. The Physical Education Building was renovated and recently a new wood gym floor and bleachers were installed.

As a result of the renovation project, all buildings except the Physical Education building are now connected and it is possible to go from one end of campus to the other without going outside – a big plus on a cold and windy winter day!

A formal dedication ceremony of the new campus facilities was conducted on October 14, 2000. A week-long celebration of special events in the new Prairie Theater and University Center Commons during October of 2000 included a Gala Opening Concert featuring alumni performers, public tours of the new facilities, a performance by Ballet Folklorico Mexico, an evening concert by the Miami Wind Quintet, a rock concert by Monovox and a swing dance.
