Life Span
Developmental Psychology
Service-learning is offered as an option for this course. Students participate in the placement model, where they work within agencies, related to course topics, over the course of the semester. Students are expected to complete at least 15 hours of service.
Physiology 235: Human Physiology
Project information: Service-learning was offered as an option for this course. Students that participate ran Blood Pressure Clinic at the Woodlands Senior Park for 8 consecutive weeks. They received on site training with other issues related to health care. Participating students completed at least 8 hours of service and submit a reflection poster at the end of their service.
Chemistry 361: Organic Chemistry Laboratory Part II
Project Information: This is a service-learning course. Service-learning was offered as an option for students. Those who participate must choose a topic of public concern and/or relevance and give a presentation. 5 students signed up for this option for this course. Students split up into 2 group presentations: one on Biomass Conversion and the other on Biodegradable plastics.
Chemistry 203: Survey of Biochemistry
Project Information: This is a service-learning course. Students enrolled in the course had to participate in service-learning. They divided into groups and interview focus groups composed of residents from the Woodlands Senior Park about their nutrition and how this has changed. Students were then be responsible for completing a follow up interview and reflection presentation with the residents that they had met with.
Psychology 360
Project Information: This is a service-learning course. Service-learning was offered as an option for this course. Students had to complete at least 15 hours of service within agencies related to course topics.
Anthropology 314
Project Information: Service-Learning was offered as an option for this course. It was up to students to develop their own project direction. 1 student chose this as an option for this course. The student developed a learning based presentation and implemented it at a local elementary school. Evaluations forms were given to the professor and student. Evaluations allow for input from project participants about their experiences, what they felt their impact was and what to change/keep for the future to make the program more effective. The professor and student received a certificate of appreciation for their participation in service-learning. The certificates are a way to celebrate the service that was undertaken by all involved in the project and to recognize them for their service.
Spanish 205
Project Information: Service-learning was a requirement for all enrolled students. They had to complete a minimal of 4 hours of service at the Boys and Girls Club after school program at Riverside elementary school. UW-FDL students had to complete service related to course concepts, not only learning and understanding Spanish, but understanding the differences in learning styles of Spanish speakers learning to speak English. Several students worked as Spanish tutors/mentors and some presented information about Mexico.
History 102
Project Information: This was a service-learning course. Service-Learning was offered as an option for students. Students had the option to work with the Fond du Lac Historical Society’s Traveling Trunks program. The traveling trunks program is a learning based interactive trunk to teach children about history. They have different trunks geared to topics as the Civil War Trunk, Native Americans, etc. Enrolled students had the opportunity to revise and/or create new lessons plans for the trunks, check out the trunk to present it and/or do both.
Physiology 202
Project Information: This was a summer service-learning course. Students had the option to participate in service-learning. Participating students implemented clinics at the Woodlands Senior Park. There was 2 groups of students; one was skin and bones and the other was eyes and hears.
Physiology 203
Project Information: This was a summer service-learning course. Students had the option to participate in service-learning. Participating students implemented clinics at the Woodlands Senior Park. They will complete health checks with residents and blood pressure clinics.
Sociology 101
Project Information: Service-Learning is an option for the course. Participating students will work and implement activities related to course topics at the Woodlands Senior Park.
