Professor Mike Nofz has pursued a variety of research interests, publishing articles about ethnic communities, rural sociology, and technology. He is especially interested in how current advances in artificial intelligence affect social interaction. He has also been quite involved in the field of service learning, where students do community volunteer work as part of their courses.
Nofz and his family (wife, Linda; son, Noah; a dog and two cats) have hosted foreign high school students from Japan and Germany in recent years. In his spare time, Dr. Nofz likes to do wood carving, using only hand tools.
At UW-Fond du Lac, Nofz teaches courses in introductory sociology, marriage and family, social problems, contemporary comparative sociology, and racial and ethnic relations. He finds the challenges of teaching quite rewarding, and enjoys hearing success stories from former students.
