ARE YOU INTERESTED IN A
PHYSICS & ASTRONOMY MAJOR?

Physics is that quantitative science concerned with the nature and measurement of matter and energy and the relationship between them. Physics includes the fields of mechanics, heat, thermodynamics, optics/light, acoustics/sound, electricity and magnetism. Today there is no clear boundary between physics and the other experimental sciences or some of the highly technical engineering fields. As physics advances, it’s more highly developed branches (e.g.,astrophysics, geophysics) become specialized sciences in their own right, but newly discovered phenomena constantly extend its scope. Modern physics includes atomic physics, nuclear physics, elementary partical physics, and various subgroups such as solid-state physics, plasma physics, and low-temperature physics. They have in part a common theoretical approach based on the Quantum Theory and Theory of Relativity. The science of astronomy can be divided into several branches including practical astronomy, the field of observation and instrument design, astrometry, the measurement of the positions and movements of the heavenly bodies, celestial mechanics, the study of orbits, and astrophysics, the study of the physical characteristics of stars and planets, e.g., their temperatures, composition and life histories.
