Dean's Bio - John N. Short
John N. Short became chief executive officer and dean at UW-Fond du Lac in July of 2010. He also holds the rank of tenured professor in the political science department.
Prior to coming to UW-Fond du Lac, Dr. Short was Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Millersville University in Pennsylvania. He spent eight years at Millersville University, a regional comprehensive university with an enrollment of 8,000 students.
Dean Short is a strong supporter of the visual and performing arts as a mechanism for fostering creative thinking, diverse perspectives, and social issues. He led a building and fund-raising project at Millersville University for a Visual and Performing Arts Center that is currently under construction.
He has been a leader in establishing and gaining accreditation of bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in social work, as well as accreditation in art and design, music, business and teacher preparation programs.
Before leaving Millersville University, Dean Short was honored to be awarded the Excellence and Equity Award “in recognition of outstanding leadership in support of diversity initiatives and programs and distinguished service to the President’s Commission on Cultural Diversity.”
Dean Short holds a Doctor of Arts in government from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; a Master’s Degree in political science from State University of New York at Albany; and a Bachelor’s Degree from Penn State University.
