Who are we?
The Fond du Lac Area Diversity Circles Project is a proactive and pioneering effort by concerned members to encourage an atmosphere of communication, understanding and hope among an increasingly diverse population in greater Fond du Lac. The Diversity Circles Project is coordinated through the University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac Continuing Education and Cooperative Extension offices and managed by representatives from education, children services agencies, healthcare, city and county offices and concerned citizens.
Fond du Lac Diversity Circles and how they started

2001

A county-wide survey, conducted by Safe and Stable Families, indicated that although people feel good about their community, persons of color sense a lack of acceptance, mutual respect and cultural sensitivity.
2002

United for Diversity/PeaceFest initiated the concept of Diversity Circles in 2002 when a committee studied diversity circle examples and contacted other Wisconsin cities that were conducting circles. The Diversity Circles approach was decided upon because it has had tremendous success in other communities and was the most viable option to address the needs of the Fond du Lac community.
2003

UW-Fond du Lac Continuing Education suggested to Safe and Stable Families that a community partnership is developed. The result of several intense grant writing sessions, attended by a developing working group, was a Cross Divisional Program Innovation Fund award from the University of Wisconsin-Extension. The University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac Office of Continuing Education administers the Fond du Lac Diversity Circles with the support of a working group representing community organizations, businesses and government.

Diversity Circles gave me an opportunity to experience open and honest dialogue about diversity. Also, I learned different ways to better understand different backgrounds.
