WELCOME BACK!
The UW-Fond du Lac Student Services staff welcomes you to the start of another school year. We hope you had an enjoyable summer and your school year is off to a great start!
We have always strived to keep you and your students well informed about UW-Fond du Lac. We will again continue to provide you with valuable information. As partners working toward success for our student populations, we are committed to providing you with the newest and best information on UW-Fond du Lac and the UW System in general.
We look forward to providing you with updates in a convenient and concise manner in this monthly e-newsletter and during our planned special events for High School Counselors.
Melissa Luedtke joins UW-Fond du Lac as Student Services Coordinator
Melissa will have the primary responsibility for the recruitment and retention of incoming high school students in addition to advising new and continuing students at UW-Fond du Lac.
She comes to UW-Fond du Lac with 13 years of experience in higher education. Her most recent professional work was as the Coordinator of the Student Leadership Center and Manger of the Outdoor Adventure Program at UW-Oshkosh where she also spent time as a Residence Hall Director.
Melissa grew up in Minnesota but has lived in Wisconsin for the past nine years. She has a passion for travel that began when she spent a year living in Australia as a high school exchange student. In 2002, Luedtke participated in the Semester at Sea program and served as one of 40 staff on a 100-day study abroad voyage that circumnavigated the globe traveling to 10 countries.
She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Bemidji State University and a Master of Science degree in Counseling from Mankato State University.
She presently lives in Fond du Lac with her husband, Tim, and their two young sons.
A Note From Melissa…
I love working with students whether they are kindergarten students or master’s degree seeking students. My goal is to help each person in their individual development and assist them in finding an educational path that makes sense for them.
We are all working with students as they make their future plans. If there is anything that I can do to help you serve your students and their families better regarding their college questions and plans, please do not hesitate to contact me!
I am excited to meet each of you at the upcoming Counselor’s Luncheon and look forward to exchanging ideas and suggestions that will help us work more collaboratively to assist students.
Sincerely,
Melissa Luedtke

ACT Exam Preparation Course Offered
An ACT Preparation course will be offered again this Fall at the University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac beginning Sept. 29. This course is open to all students who will be taking the ACT exam this spring whether they will attend UW-Fond du Lac or a college elsewhere.
Students will meet four times on Saturday, Sept. 29, 8 a.m.-noon; Saturday, Oct. 6, 8 a.m.-noon: Tuesday, Oct. 9, 5:30-9 p.m., and Thursday, Oct. 11, 6-8 p.m.
The sessions will be taught by faculty from the UW Colleges. At the first class meeting of each session, students will take a diagnostic test to identify areas of both strength and need. The second and third class meetings will include a review of the pretest results, English, reading, writing, math and science. The last class meeting will include a mini-test, wrap-up and questions.
To receive the full benefit of this course it is important that participants attend all class meetings. It is also important to note that registering for an ACT Preparation course does not register students for the ACT test.
The fee is $129 and includes the 532-page study guide “Cracking the ACT,” administration of the pre-test complete with results, and all instruction. Early registration is recommended due to limited space. Additional course sections will be offered this winter and spring prior to ACT exams.
To register or for more information call (920) 929-3622 or sign up and pay online at www.fdl.uwc.edu/cont_ed/act_prep.html
Continuing Education at UW-Fond du Lac offers scholarships to economically disadvantaged youth for ACT Prep Scholarship. Participants will receive either a 100% scholarship (free) or 75% scholarship (reduced). A copy of the participant's free/reduced lunch program letter from their high school district is needed to be eligible.
Campus Preview at UW-Fond du Lac to be held October 30
Area high school students and their families are invited to attend a Campus Preview at UW-Fond du Lac on Tuesday night, October 30, 2007 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
Those attending will have the opportunity to meet faculty, staff, and students through brief presentations, a student question and answer panel, and personalized campus tours which feature meetings with individual faculty members who represent a variety of the programs of study offered at the College.
Information on admission to UW-Fond du Lac, scholarships and financial aid, programs of study, and the Guaranteed Transfer program will be discussed.
Students and their families who are interested in attending this program can register online or by calling the Student Services Office at (920) 929-3606.
