Counselor's Update
ACT Exam Preparation
Course Offered
An ACT Preparation course is
being offered again this fall
and winter at the University of
Wisconsin-Fond du Lac. This
course is open to all students
who will be taking the ACT exam
this spring whether they will
attend UW-Fond du Lac or a
college elsewhere.
The sessions are taught by
faculty from the UW Colleges. At
the first class meeting of each
session, students will take a
diagnostic test to identify
areas of both strength and need.
The second and third class
meetings will include a review
of the pretest results, English,
reading, writing, math and
science. The last class meeting
will include a mini-test,
wrap-up and questions.
To receive the full benefit
of this course it is important
that participants attend all
class meetings. It is also
important to note that
registering for an ACT
Preparation course does not
register students for the ACT
test.
The fee for the session is
$149 and includes the 532-page
study guide “Cracking the ACT,”
administration of the pre-test
complete with results, and all
instruction. Early registration
is recommended due to limited
space. To register or for more
information call (920) 929-1155
or sign up and pay online at
http://www.fdl.uwc.edu/ce/youth.html
Continuing Education at
UW-Fond du Lac offers
scholarships to economically
disadvantaged youth for ACT
Prep. Scholarship participants
will receive either a 100%
scholarship (free) or 75%
scholarship (reduced). A copy of
the participant's free/reduced
lunch program letter from their
high school district is needed
to be eligible.

Scholarships for 2009-2010
Academic Year
Scholarships are made
available through the University
of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac
Foundation, Inc. The Foundation
encourages the enrollment of
students who will add to the
overall excellence of its
academic and co-curricular
programs.
The scholarship program is
intended to provide financial
support for and recognition of
students who have demonstrated
qualities of excellence.
Application deadline for the
2009-2010 academic year is March
20, 2009.
If you are in the top 50% of
your high school graduating
class, you are eligible to apply
for a scholarship. Applications
will be evaluated on the
following criteria: Academic
excellence, demonstrated
achievement, leadership in
extracurricular and community
activities, and the required
essay.
Students who are admitted to
UW-Fond du Lac for the 2009-2010
academic year may apply. You
must be registered as a
full-time student (12 or more
credits) of UW-Fond du Lac to
receive the scholarship once it
is awarded. Additional

New Students Admitted for
Spring 2009
Students that have been
admitted for spring 2009 have
had information mailed to them
about upcoming Placement Test
dates and Orientation and
Registration programs. Any
students wishing to take a math
or English course must take a
placement test to determine
which course they are eligible
to take. You can help by
encouraging students who have
been admitted to take their
placement tests early. See the
dates and further information on
Placement Tests at:
http://www.fdl.uwc.edu/admissions/placement_testing.html
Social Security Numbers
Are Important on College
Applications
Students are becoming
increasingly aware of how
important it is to not give out
their Social Security Number (SSN).
While a student is not legally
required to provide their SSN
when applying for admission to
the University on the
application they are strongly
encouraged to do so as it aids
in a number of ways.
Federal law allows the
University to request and use a
students’ SSN for routine record
keeping, institutional
statistics and research, and
compliance with Federal and
State reporting requirements.
Although providing the SSN is
not required for admission to
the University, it is required
for financial aid and ensures
that you will be able to claim
the new educational tax
benefits, if eligible, on your
federal tax return. The
University may use the SSN for
billing and collection efforts,
financial aid, internal
verification and administrative
purposes.
