A few comments about this page

for the Accidental Tourist

I initially created this page as an adjunct to a course in biomedical ethics.  Given that most of my students are freshmen and sophomores, none of whom have had extensive medical training and only some of whom intend to pursue careers in medicine, this site was constructed with two guiding principles:

  • All the links are to active sites that contain either useful information or informed opinions. None of the links take you to sites containing nothing more than bibliographical lists or further links to other sites. While such sites can be of tremendous value to the academic researcher, this particular site is designed for persons wanting to learn something while still sitting at the computer.
  • None of the linked readings require an extensive philosophical or medical background. Thus, anyone with an active curiosity concerning the topics covered might find these links of interest.

Yours Truly,

Roger J. Rigterink
